Chivalry..a word that reminds me back of my Intro to Psychology class during sophomore. I remember my lecturer brought up about the extinction of chivalry; how so few men owns that character. However, for me, experiencing living outside of my home country, I think there're too much chivalry in men. Most of them were very sincere in helping others especially the opposite sex. I still remember during my first year, a guy saw me heading to the door from the 1st floor. He went back downstairs just to open up the door for me. Most guys did that; opening door for the ladies. I even had a teammate who told me to let him operate the heavy machinery because he said that he couldn't see ladies did that when he could help them. There're still many chivalrous men, how could my lecturer said about its extinction.
It was until when I came back to my home country for good. Door always almost hits on my face; guys were too chicken to lead and leave the role to ladies; has mostly been pushed by guys in a queue..etc..etc..I can see that most guys help other ladies with some hidden agendas. So then I thought chivalry was dead.
However, this afternoon when I was coming out from a mall to the parking lot, a man was holding the door for some people who are coming out. I observed that no one bothered bout that. There are even two ladies who were talking to each other walking very slow without ever realizing about that man. So, when I walked pass the door I smiled, nod at him and simply said "Thank you". He smiled back, and I'm sure he felt appreciated with that simple words. It's sad to see that a kind gesture being ignored like that. I wonder why some people don't even bother to be nice; then I got the answer that time: no one appreciates. Just imagine if you were that man; you are doing something nice, then everyone ignores that gesture...what would you do? If I were him, I might just forget about holding door for people after that.
Come on people, chivalry is not dead so don't kill it but appreciate it!

Words to ponder
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) once said:
"And know that what has befallen you was not going to miss you, and that which missed you was not meant to befall you."and in the Quran:
"Verily, We have created all things with Qadar [Divine Preordainments of all things before their creation, as written in the Book of Decrees - Lauh Mahfuz]" (34:49)The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) also said:
"Wonderful is the affair of the believer! His affairs in their entirety are good for him: if good befalls him, he is thankful, and that is good for him. And if harm befalls him, he is patient, and that is good for him. And this (prosperous state of being) is only for the believer."

Paddington House of Pancakes
Went to Paddington House of Pancakes in Queensbay Mall last weekend for lunch. I had no idea where to eat besides Nandos every time I went to that mall. Thus, since Eisha came up with that idea, i seconded since we'd never tried their food besides pancakes.
I was excited with the choices of pastas they have. It reminded me of the cheesecake factory in the us. Being a fan of salmon, I ordered salmon spaghetti aglio olio with herbs. I don't know if that's the exact name for it since it's hard to remember long food names. When it arrived at the table, I was attracted with the amount of salmon chunks. They're quite a lot. I tasted the salmon, it was good; then the spaghetti olio was good too; however, when mixing up the whole bowl, the saltiness was quite a turn-off for me. There's even a hint of spice in it, which is acceptable, but when combined with the sourness of those brownish chunks as in the picture, another turn-off. Nevertheless, managed to finish up the whole bowl since I was hungry. Overall rating of the pasta: not bad.but I guess I'm not a fan of sourness+saltiness in salmon; and I wish there were some asparagus added cause for me, any pasta olio tastes good with it ;P
I had passionfruit+mango juice for drink. Loved it. The combination of the sweetness of mango and sourness of passionfruit tasted good.

The dessert: oreo pancake with choc ice cream, marshmallows and fresh strawberries. Not sure bout the exact name, since yeah I don't think I would remember long food names. Loved it too. Lets keep it short, I love any dessert with ice cream!

Ais Tingkap
A friend introduced me to ais tingkap on Tamil Road, Penang. So, what is Ais Tingkap?
It a very refreshing drink that was introduced early 1900. At that time, ais tingkap was sold through a window(tingkap), that's how it got the name. Whoever comes to Penang, if you are tired walking or shopping around the Chowrasta area, don't forget to grab one ais tingkap for yourself. I promise that it will quench your thirst and you will want more! Here is the step-by-step on how it's made:
After this process, some shaved ice is added. I love to chew something crunchy after I slurp (it either the getah anggur or biji selasih). The price is RM1.40 for one glass or RM1.70 for one bungkus (put in a plastic). I prefer the latter since there's more..baru puas....

Shanghai Girls by Lisa See
I hope I would have done everything differently except I know everything would have turned out the same. That's the meaning of fate. But if some things are fated and some people are luckier than others, then I also have to believe that I still haven't found my destiny.Have just finished reading Shanghai Girls by Lisa See. It's a very great story about the bond of sisterhood. No matter how bad you fight with your sister, the bond can never be broken. And when your sister is your only family that's left, you will depend on each other to survive.
From the last paragraph that I quoted above, it's true that no one can run from fate. Fate has been destined to us by birth; no matter how we're trying to fight it or try to do everything differently, it will alway be the same. It doesn't mean that we need to just wait for what will eventually happen to us. If for instance that we are worried that something bad is happening to us, we can't just let it happen; do something and strive, because we'll never know what's ahead.
Like in this book, Pearl and May were used living in wealth. They thought that their lives will be that easy onwards, until they found out that their father gambled their wealth; they lost everything and suddenly the Japanese invaded Shanghai. There was a war, and anything could happen in a war. It had been a huge turn up to them. They'd been forced into marriages, and lost their Mama and Baba along the way. Lastly they ended up in California.
Won't be telling the story in detail. You have to grab the book right away. It's a historical fiction book that you won't want to miss. I never liked history, but this book taught me a little history about Shanghai. How Japanese invaded Shanghai and what the people had done to survive. I was also informed about the Angel Island in San Francisco, where the Chinese people's fates were determined; either they'd been deported back or stayed in US. And about the opening of Chinatown in LA. It's interesting to learn a lil history in a fiction book.
I had also read Lisa See's Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. That's how I started to love Lisa See's writing. Got the other of her books for bargain in the Big Bad Wolf Booksale last month, so I have lots of books piling up, waiting to be read.
